Project Qadam

About

India is often called the “barefoot country” due to a majority of its population being comfortable walking without shoes. However, many citizens of the country are forced to go barefoot due to a lack of financial resources to invest in shoes. Despite widespread belief stating otherwise, being barefoot all the time can have adverse implications on health. Walking on hard surfaces barefoot causes the feet to collapse which can lead to a tremendous amount of stress not only to the foot but also to the rest of the body. It can increase the progression of underlying foot deformities, such as bunions and hammertoes, and lead to painful conditions associated with excessive pronation such as arch/heel pain, shin splints, or posterior tibial tendonitis, and Achilles’ tendonitis. Pledge a Smile Foundation has set up “Project Qadam” to provide relief to the homeless and needy by giving slippers and shoes to protect them from harmful germs, extreme weather, and injuries. The foundation aims to provide the underprivileged with a chance to take steps in life without any pain and distress.
