The short version: donations are voluntary gifts and are generally not refundable, but we will always return a duplicate, accidental or wrong-amount payment if you tell us within seven days. A monthly donation can be cancelled at any time.
This policy covers donations only. We do not sell goods or services, so there is nothing to return.
Donations are generally final
A donation is a voluntary gift, and nothing on this site is for sale. Money that reaches us is committed quickly: to the next drive, the next term's fees, the next round of supplies. So donations are generally non-refundable.
The exceptions below exist because payment mistakes happen, and a mistake is not a gift.
When we will refund
We will refund a donation in full where:
- The same donation was charged twice, or the payment went through more than once.
- The donation was made by accident: the wrong button, the wrong person, a card used without the owner's knowledge.
- The amount charged is not the amount you meant to give, for instance a figure typed with an extra zero.
- A technical fault on our side or at the gateway caused the charge.
If money left your account but no confirmation arrived, send us the transaction reference. We will check it against our records and Razorpay's, then either complete your donation or return the money.
How to ask
Email [email protected] within 7 days of the payment. Please include:
- The name and email address you donated under.
- The date and the amount of the donation.
- The transaction reference: the payment ID from your confirmation, or your bank or card statement line.
- One line on what went wrong.
We come back to you once the payment is matched to our records. Beyond seven days we cannot promise a refund, but tell us anyway: a plain duplicate or error we would rather return than keep.
How a refund is paid
Approved refunds are processed through Razorpay and go back to the same card, account or UPI ID the donation came from; we cannot send one anywhere else. The money usually reaches you within 7 to 10 business days of approval, though your bank or card issuer sets the final timeline.
We do not deduct any fee from a refund. You get back what you gave.
Refunds and your 80G certificate
If an 80G certificate was already issued for a donation that is then refunded, the certificate is withdrawn and must not be used to claim a deduction. Where the donation has already been reported in our Form 10BD filing, we correct that filing. Tell us before you file your return if a refund is in progress.
Cancelling a monthly donation
You can stop a recurring monthly donation at any time, with no notice and no reason needed. Use the subscription link Razorpay emails you when the monthly gift is set up, or email [email protected] with the name and email you gave under and we will cancel it.
Cancelling stops every future charge. It does not refund the months already given. Those are treated like any other donation here. If a charge went out after you asked us to cancel, tell us and we will return it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The current version is always the one on this page, with its effective date at the top, and a request is handled under the policy in force on the day you donated.
