Project Raahat

About

Project RAAHAT: Warmth, dignity, and safety through harsh winters.

When temperatures drop, the impact isn’t just discomfort—it becomes a health and survival risk for families living in vulnerable conditions. Project RAAHAT is Pledge A Smile Foundation’s winter relief initiative that provides essential winter items to those who need them most.

Our Story (How it started)

RAAHAT began during the COVID period, when families were already dealing with income loss and uncertainty—and winter made the crisis even harsher. What started as urgent seasonal support grew into a recurring commitment: every winter, we show up with practical essentials that help people stay warm, healthy, and protected.

What we do (Today)

Project RAAHAT supports vulnerable communities with winter essentials that reduce exposure-related risks and provide immediate comfort.

Support typically includes:

  • Blankets and warm bedding support
  • Winter clothing (jackets/sweaters/socks/caps, based on need)
  • Basic cold-protection essentials for at-risk individuals (elderly, children, daily-wage workers)

We focus on items that are useful, durable, and distributed responsibly, so support lasts through the season—not just a day.

Why Winter Relief Matters

Cold waves hit hardest when people lack:

  • stable housing/heating,
  • sufficient warm clothing,
  • access to timely medical support.

A blanket or warm jacket may look small, but it can prevent illness, missed workdays, and avoidable hospital visits—especially for children and elderly family members. RAAHAT is about preventing a seasonal vulnerability from becoming a health crisis.

Our Approach (How we deliver)

1) Need identification
We identify high-need areas through local coordination and on-ground verification.

2) Item planning & quality checks
We prioritise items that are practical for real conditions—warmth, durability, correct sizing where relevant, and reliable utility.

3) Last-mile distribution
We execute distribution drives with a focus on safety, order, and dignity—so people receive support respectfully and efficiently.

4) Seasonal continuity
RAAHAT is designed as a recurring seasonal programme—so winter relief isn’t a one-off effort, but a dependable annual response.
