Project Muskaan

About

Project Muskaan was initiated to address a recurring on-ground reality: children often discontinue schooling not due to lack of ambition, but due to avoidable, practical constraints. In its early phase, Muskaan focused on bridging immediate learning gaps—providing basic stationery and learning materials so children could participate consistently in classroom activities without disruption.

As the program scaled, we observed that education continuity is rarely impacted by one factor alone. A child’s ability to stay in school is influenced by a chain of micro-barriers—uniform and footwear needs, seasonal vulnerabilities (especially winter), exam-related expenses, and the availability of basic classroom enablement tools. In response, Muskaan evolved from a one-time distribution approach into a structured, longer-term child support model designed to strengthen continuity across the academic year.

Today, Project Muskaan operates at the intersection of education and child welfare, working closely with educators and partner institutions to identify needs early, plan interventions, and deliver support in a dignified and accountable manner. The program currently supports 200+ children (219 beneficiaries) across five STC centres and two orphanages, with an emphasis on consistent follow-through rather than episodic aid—so learning outcomes are protected and drop-off risks are reduced.
